WELFARE OF STRAY DOGS !!!
EVERY DOG IS SPECIAL :)

Welfare may refer to:
Well being, quality of lifestyle
Animal welfare, the quality of life of animals, and concerns thereabout!
Dogs occupy a special position in human society. They were probably the first animal species to become domesticated, but their relationship with humans has always been ambivalent. Dogs form strong attachments to humans, even in the face of rejection and punishment, voluntarily allying themselves to us as faithful companions, uncomplaining child-substitutes, enduring workers, and excellent hunters and guards. Yet they are also reviled as vicious killers, unclean scavengers and outcasts.
One would often think that the welfare of humans should be taken care of before that of dogs. In my opinion, the welfare of humans had been taken care of way before we began to misuse and take advantage of our resources. Stray animals like dogs on the other hand, have been neglected since time memorial!
Animal Angels is an organisation formed by Minal Khavishwar in Mumbai. This organisation's main aim is to train pet dogs, cats and even rabbits to act as therapists for the visually impaired, mentally challenged and those residing in old age homes. Mrs. Minal Khavishwar is a clinical psychologist who did her own research in animal psychology with the help of her first own therapy dog, Kutty!!
On hearing about this organisation from Minal who is my family friend, I volunteered to take up the responsibility in the upbringing and development of her social work in bangalore. In the process of collecting volunteers from all across the city,I came across a very keen volunteer who chose to take care of all the stray dogs in his neighbourhood! I was very much impressed by the fact that there are people who still care about the welfare of these stray dogs which we see millions in number, every single day. They lie in every corner of the street, hungry, seeking for shelter and for food from the left overs of meals or even waste food thrown into garbage bins! Unlike humans or pet dogs adopted by owners, they have no choice but to eat what they find. Sometimes, they might even have to get into fights to feast upon one tiny bone that was unfortunately found by all the members of their gang! For them, each day is a fight for survival!!!
The results of them having to get into such fights are:
- They get injuries which which cannot be cured unless they are found by a very sensitive and considerate passerby who would be kind enough to take them to a vet.
- They could even go upto the extent of biting an innocent passerby if teased or if vaccination is neglected.
- They might also turn out to be a menace in neighbourhoods.
- Deterioration of their health due to lack of food and water.
We humans tend to get prejudiced by a few ferocious stray dogs and hence begin to term them all as dangerous, fierce creatures!
Due to such reasons, they are often deprived off the love and affection they deserve. The news reporter then reports a recent case about a little girl who was attacked by a few stray dogs in the neighbourhood, hence worsening their situation!!
We as citizens must hence take actions and help these dogs live peacefully as they have all the rights to do so!
